SCORING
The judges evaluate different criteria that contribute to the overall quality of the competitors' muscular development.

Competitors are judged on the overall quality of their muscular development. Judging is based upon the presentation of:

1 to 10 point system for each below category
Mass
Definition
Proportion
Symmetry
Stage Presence

Mass:
The perception of muscular size has been the foundation for bodybuilding since the beginning of the sport. Yet, mass is only meriting when accompanied by the remaining qualities.

Definition:
Indicates the degree of muscularity brought about by the absence of subcutaneous body fat. Defined muscularity is necessary to fully display the development of the physique. The definition is only of value when it allows massively developed muscles to be displayed.

Proportion:
Implies an even balance of muscular development in comparison to each muscle group. Theoretically, a "strong body part" can be just as detrimental as a "weak body part". Bodybuilders must strive for equal development between all muscle groups.

Symmetry:
A misnomer is commonly used to depict "proportion" or expressed to indicate an aesthetic quality throughout the physique. Although, in its strictest definition, symmetry denotes equal development of muscularity on both right and left sides of the physique.

Stage Presence:
I
ncludes posing performance and other factors influencing general appearances such as skin tone, grooming, charisma, and poise. Effective stage presentation is essential to display the physique to its maximum potential.

NYTBF PRO QUALIFIERS
If an event is designated as a regular Pro Qualifier, the overall winners in the Open and Age 40+ divisions for all categories become eligible for NYTBF Pro contests. In cases where there are 30 or more participants in an Open division, the top two competitors in the division become eligible for NYTBF Pro contests.

If an event is designated as a Pro Qualifier, each class winner in the Open and Age 40+ divisions for all categories become eligible for NYTBF Pro contests.

If an event is designated as a conditional pro qualifier (Pro Qualifier*), pro cards are awarded when divisions meet the required minimum turnouts. The minimums are:

Open Divisions: All Competitors must be post-op top surgery.  6 for all categories except Women's Physique, which is 3.
Age 40+ Divisions: 3 for all categories.

Competitors who win a pro-qualifying placement in a Masters Age 40+ division are eligible only for NYTBF Pro Masters Age 40+ divisions. Competitors over the age of 40 who win a pro-qualifying placement in an Open division are considered eligible for both NYTBF Open and NYTBF Masters Age 40+ pro divisions.

Competitors who qualify as NYTBF Pros for any category are considered eligible for all NYTBF Pro categories of their gender. Competitors may not compete in more than one category at any given NYTBF Pro show.

SPORTSMANSHIP
Remember, you are not alone on stage. Family, friends, other competitors, and hundreds of strangers are watching you. If you're disappointed with a placement, carry yourself as a professional during and after the awards presentations. After the show, you may speak with the judges for feedback. When speaking to them, you may discover their reasoning for your placement. You may understand their decisions more and get helpful insight for future competitions. Everyone in the show worked hard, so don't allow poor sportsmanship to ruin the event for others. Any competitors who exhibit what NYTBF deems as poor sportsmanship are subject to disqualification and may be banned from all future NYTBF events.
